Accents on the Landscape

A really beautiful collection of local artist Gordon Rushmer's paintings of the ancient churches of West Sussex, published to coincide with his exhibition at Horsham Art Gallery. We have just a few of these left from the original print run.
Gordon Rushmer had a long career as an award-winning war artist, and now, in retirement, has turned his eye to the exquisite beauty of West Sussex's ancient churches. Gordon's watercolour paintings really capture the gentle poignancy of the chalky, subdued hues of flint and stone, pale shimmering light playing on delicate stone carvings, details of lintels and lychgates, the mellow stone and patina of age on oak pews, and the age-worn stone of headstones and graves.
The book includes unusual views of Chichester Cathedral, the nude paintings at Hardham, and Gordon's paintings of the unusual 11th Century frescoes at Coombes Church, near Steyning, plus many more. A perfect pick for anyone interested in ancient architecture, local history, and art.
